Johnny Dangerous' Balaton Bike Challenge 2025

Donation protected
I'm Johnny and I am undertaking a charity bike challenge to raise money for The British Heart Foundation.

On 19th April this year (2023) my younger brother George sadly passed away aged only 48. He had a cardiac arrest whilst at work and despite all efforts the A&E team at Doncaster Royal Infirmary were unable to revive him. His loss has left a huge void in our lives.

The 30th December would have been his 49th birthday. I have chosen this as the right time to announce a personal challenge I will be doing in his memory whilst raising money for the British Heart Foundation a charity that is close to both of us.

In August 2025, what would be my brother’s 50th year, I will be undertaking a 200KM bike ride around Lake Balaton in Hungary,

Hungary is a special place for both of us. It’s where our parents came from, our dad was a refugee from the 1956 Hungarian Uprising who found a new life in England. My mum joined him in 1970 and they got married. I was born in 1973 and George in 1974. We had the most loving parents and every summer from a young age we would go to Hungary to visit family for at least two weeks.

It was during one of these trips that we visited Lake Balaton, a natural beauty within the heart of Hungary, a 77KM long freshwater lake. We visited numerous times as children and many, great memories were made there, mainly at Balatonfenyves.

I plan to ride around the lake in 5 days and I need your help.

The first amount of money I am looking at raising is to fund the cost of the event. I need to raise £6,500 to cover the costs and logistics of putting on the challenge and I am contacting you to ask if you would be able to support the event via sponsorship.

Most of the cost will be taken up by the logistics of putting on the event such as motorhome hire, fuel, Eurotunnel, road tolls, inmsurance and accommodation to name a few things.

Once this has been achieved the hard work will begin, not only the training I have to do to achieve 40/50KM a day, but also the colossal fundraising I would like to do for this great charity and all funds raised will go to a special Just Giving age directly to the British Heart Foundation.

The money that is raised will fund their research into the many heart conditions we have today and aid in helping to find possible cures as well as understand why and how certain conditions happen and develop and what could prevent them. Heart conditions re one of the biggest causes of death within the UK,

There will be a Facebook and Instagram page set up where you can follow the progress of this challenge as it gains momentum.

If you feel you can help with anything regarding the Charity Challenge, please contact me.
This is only the beginning. Health permitting, I have many other similar challenges in the pipeline and plan to take them on, one at a time, all with the aim of raising money for this great and worthwhile charity.

This charity challenge isn’t only in memory of my brother George… it is in memory of every person that has died from a heart condition. The mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, friends, work colleagues and many other people we have lost from our lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you all in advance for your support.

I would be grateful if you could share this with anyone who may be intersted in supporting the event.
