Johnny's Story
Many of us know Johnny locally. Here are some things some of us may not know.
Johnny just turned 81. Johnny’s wife does not work outside the home but supports Johnny in his business…and mission. He told me he must continue working as its his calling. Johnny’s faith is very public…. front and center in his shop and even his shop window, which faces Old Rand Road right at the main downtown Lake Zurich, Illinois intersection. His original shoe shop a half block away, burned on Thanksgiving evening, 15 years ago in 2005. Without insurance, Johnny was without hope to continue. But God is good, and moved in the hearts of many followers of Jesus Christ at the Village Church of Barrington, where Johnny had been attending, and they helped secure the current location, located a complete set of shoe and leather repair equipment from a Minnesota shoe shop, drove up and purchased all the equipment, built out the new space with countertops and electrical requirements and helped Johnny get a fresh start in January of 2006.
We all know that the Covid Pandemic has hurt all small businesses, and especially those that depend on customers actually venturing out in person to get to the shops versus buying online. Since April of 2020, Johnny has had a fraction of the business he previously had, yet is faithful to continue in his mission.
Please consider helping Johnny, a local Urban Christian Missionary, be able to continue to be a witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the local community. If the you feel moved to give a monetary gift, one time or monthly, our goal is to pay his rent for the year.
