So by now you all know the good news right?
WE HAVE A KIDNEY DONOR FOR JOHN!!!
It's been a painfully long journey since September 10, 2015 when we first found out that John's kidneys were shot. We've gone through numerous donors and have had a few too many rides on the "donor coaster" but we finally have an approved donor (#10!) and a surgery date of Thursday, July 6th!
Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared our story. Your love, support, kindness, and generosity have been overwhelming and we truly can’t thank you enough.
Your past donations helped to fly other donor candidates to LA and helped defray any expenses not covered by John's insurance.
Many of you continue to ask how you can help and how you can be a part of this journey with us. Here’s a way that will help everyone.
The costs of our donor’s medical testing and surgery are all covered by John’s health insurance. (That's great news, right?!)
But any out of pocket expenses for his donor such as airplane tickets, accommodations, and other expenses like food, car rentals, Uber rides, etc are NOT covered. Similarly, travel for a friend or family member to accompany her is not covered.
John's donor lives in the Bay Area and will be coming down for pre-op testing in late June and then will come back down for the surgery. She may need to be in LA for a few weeks post-surgery until she's cleared to travel back home.
So.... since we cannot ‘pay’ a donor or exchange money in any way lest is appear that we are ‘buying’ the kidney (which is completely illegal), what we CAN do is pay for all of those other expenses.
We are gladly accepting donations to help offset the costs of plane tickets, hotels, cars, meals – basically, anything to do with our donor’s out-of-pocket expenses.

After the successful surgeries, any funds left will be donated to kidney research, a kidney related charity or to another kidney patient so that we can pay this gift forward. So many others are in need.
