John's Journey to Beat the Coronavirus!
Donation protected
My name is Kelly and I live on Long Island, NY. This is my uncle's story about fighting the Coronavirus who lives in Queens, NY which has been hit hard by the virus.
My Uncle John contracted Covid-19 on March 15 and was hospitalized in the ICU and intubated on a ventilator on March 20. He spent 5 weeks in an induced coma where every day was a rollercoaster ride with his health. There were days he showed some improvement and days that he declined rapidly. There were days we didn't know if he was going to make it. Even tougher was that family was unable to be there with him during his battle, unable to support him other than through prayers.
But God is good and heard our prayers and answered them! Despite 5 weeks of mechanical ventilation which at many times was breathing 100% for him, kidney function declining, blood clots, bleeding on the brain, and many other issues from the virus, John is alive today! He has beaten the odds against him. After 5 weeks, and 2 failed attempts to take him off of the ventilator, doctors were able to give him a tracheostomy and he was able to wake up from sedation. Finally, after 7 weeks with the virus, he tested negative for Covid-19.
His lungs still have a lot of healing to do and he has a long road of rehabilitation to get him stronger. Months of fighting with this virus took a toll on his body as well as his family. Unfortunately, he will be unable to return to work for the foreseeable future until he can fully recover. We still need all of your prayers as his journey of healing is only partly complete. We are still praying that he qualify for an acute rehabilitation center as he is so weak that lifting his hand is a struggle as well as for his patience with the healing process and being alone and unable to speak or eat due to the trach. But also, we would appreciate any monetary donations to help ease the financial burden on the family as he is rehabilitating.
Anyone who knows my Uncle John knows that he is the most caring, kindest, and loyal person. He dedicated his life to helping others and spreading God's Gospel. He would love nothing more than to be able to get back to that life. He would love nothing more than to be able to be home again with my Aunt Stella and be with his children, Rebecca and Jonathan, and his sweet grandbaby Lucas.
This virus is vicious and attacks the body and the family from all angles. But there is hope for John and his family. We just need to keep the faith.
"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer."
-Romans 12:12
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
-Isaiah 40:31
