With the help of so many supporters, so much love and solidarity in his fight for freedom, Yahya is now home! He is beginning to accumulate the things he needs to begin life anew after nearly 27 years in prison. This fund will go a long way in that process, so please circulate it widely! Read on to learn more about his story or click here.
John Moore--known lovingly to many as Yahya--was wrongfully convicted nearly 27 years ago. With few resources and an ineffective court-appointed defense attorney, he was found guilty of a crime he did not commit based on incredible testimony and with no physical evidence against him whatsoever. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for second degree murder.
While in prison, he has dedicated himself to studying the law and has mastered it well enough to keep his case alive in post-conviction courts. This long and arduous battle is hopefully coming to a close soon.
Yahya's recent legal successes have opened two promising pathways to his freedom: an evidentiary hearing in the PA court system (to be held June 15, 2023) and a "2244," a rarely granted opportunity to argue his innocence in the federal court system. We are incredibly hopeful that these pathways will finally bring him home.
Yahya is beloved by so many and has changed many lives. He chose to spend his time in prison in meaningful ways: by helping others fight for their freedom and by participating in and leading countless programs where he inspired us with his wit, wisdom, and generous heart. Now is our chance to show him our love, thanks, and solidarity by helping him transition home as soon as he wins his freedom. In order to provide as much support for him as possible, we are launching this GoFundMe now to prepare for his homecoming.
For those who don't know Yahya but are interested in justice, consider this: the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provides $0 compensation for people who have been wrongfully convicted. $0. When Yahya comes home, after decades of being wrongfully imprisoned, PA expects him, like so many others, to find his own way and build the free life he deserves from the ground up with no official assistance.
Please consider donating to this fund to support Yahya so that he can buy…well, everything, when he comes home.
