Stick it to Cancer

Donation protected
In mid September 2016, with no prior symptoms, John Wilson started getting lost on his drive to work and was becoming confused doing simple, everyday tasks.

Two weeks later, John was diagnosed with  stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a highly aggressive, incurable, malignant brain tumour.  It quickly took away his left field of vision and the strength in his left limbs. One week after diagnosis, John had a craniotomy to remove the large tumour, followed by two additional neurosurgeries. Two weeks after surgery, he began 6 weeks of simultaneous chemotherapy and radiation treatment, along with physical, occupational and speech therapy. Despite his enormous efforts and positive attitude, in late December his condition worsened dramatically.  After being hospitalized in the ICU over Christmas, he was sent home where Hospice comes to the house, several times a week to help care for him.

John is no longer able to walk and requires two physically strong people to help him from bed to chair.  It has been 5 months since diagnosis and he tries his best to enjoy each day and is grateful to be with his family.  John’s wife, Marie Walker, 15-year old son, Alex, and 11-year old daughter,  Sofie,  treasure the time they have been able to spend with him.

The Bulldog Youth Hockey Association is hosting a fundraiser and open skate/skate event called "Stick it to Cancer" to honor John and raise proceeds to help John and his family cope with medical bills, ongoing care costs and living expenses during this difficult time.

For those who cannot attend the event but would like to support this wonderful family from afar, please consider donating to the GoFundMe account.  They could truly use the support.  Thank you.
