John Williamson Funeral and Medical Expenses

Dear Friends and Community,

My name is Jim Telford. My sister Kathy Williamson, and her family desperately need your help. John Frederick Williamson, Kathy’s loving husband of 34 years, father to John Christopher, son to mother Joan and father Jack, identical twin brother to Gary, and brother to Kim, passed away on June 16, 2023, after suffering a massive heart attack and stroke, while on the job during a concert tour in the Netherlands. He was 58.

Johnny died doing what he loved. He was a member of the production crew for Pink (Alecia Moore) on her 2023 Summer Carnival world tour, at the 52nd annual Pinkpop Festival, located in Landgraaf, Netherlands. Outside of his family, music and concert production was John’s life passion for over 30 years.

Johnny worked with hundreds of musicians and artists from every music genre on countless world tours for over 30 years. Most notably, Pink, Prince, Sir Paul McCartney, Katy Perry, Counting Crows, Kelly Clarkson, Lauryn Hill, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, The Weekend, Tyler, the Creator, Neil Diamond, John Mayer, Dead and Company, Third Eye Blind, Meatloaf, Wiz Khalifa, John Fogerty, Nickelback, and endless others.

Funeral expenses, bills, and costs associated with returning John’s remains, have been prohibitive - John’s wife, Kathy Williamson, suffers from a debilitating degenerative disease, Multiple Sclerosis, which forces her to walk with the use of a cane, and led to the rapid deterioration of her fine motor skill functions, and cognitive abilities. At times her illness prevents her from holding a pencil, gripping a steering wheel, or completing mundane daily tasks without painfully struggling. Kathy is genuinely terrified that she may lose her health care coverage and be unable to pay her medical bills and expenses.

Because John died overseas in the Netherlands, the legal challenges have proven to be an extremely difficult process for Kathy to navigate. Unfortunately we still have not received the Consular Report of Death from the U.S. Consulate General, a necessary document in order for Kathy to access John’s life insurance policy benefits. Unfortunately this is not expected to be resolved for another 2-3 months. The lack of access to benefits has placed an enormous burden and strain on the Williamson family.

First and foremost, Johnny was a family man to the core. He was a genuinely kind, sweet, fun loving teddy bear, with a wickedly hilarious sense of humor. He was respected in the music industry and widely considered to be the consummate professional. John was a longtime resident of Citrus Heights, a suburb community of Sacramento California. John was born and raised in Stockton, California and graduated Lincoln High School in 1983, where he lettered in Football and Baseball. He later attended Sacramento State University, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

John started working stage production, as a stagehand and rigger in 1988 when he joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E. )Local 50 in Sacramento, before eventually joining the I.A.T.S.E. Local 134 San Jose in the mid ‘90s. Johnny loved working with his brothers and sisters in the I.A.T.S.E.

Johnny planned all along that this would be his last concert tour. It was his 17th year working with the artist, Alecia Moore (Pink) “This is my last tour.”, John said to Kathy. “This is it. I’m done. Alecia is a good one to end on.” He said these words to Kathy the last time she saw him alive, April 27, 2023. John departed minutes later on a flight to the U.K. For rehearsals for Pink’s 2023 Summer Carnival world tour. Of all the musicians and artists that Johnny was fortunate enough to work with, Alecia Moore, and her team, was by far the artist he enjoyed working with the most. John hoped to take over a stewardship in the Bay Area upon his return from the tour, so that he could focus on staying close to home to be with his wife Kathy.

Please consider donating if you can, as any amount, no matter how small will truly help. Our goal is to raise $50,000 for funeral, medical, and unforeseen future expenses for the Williamson family.

Thank you for your consideration.

Special thanks to artist Alecia Morre (Pink) Manager - Roger Davies, Production Manager - Malcolm Weldon, Netherlands Promotor - MOJO Concerts, Promotor Representatives - Leon Ramaker, and Rob Trommelen, and John’s good friend and colleague- Roland Castillo, for their kindness, generosity, and their efforts in expediting the secure U.S. return of John Williamson’s body.
