On Saturday, January 23, John Williams had a heart attack and was flown to Roanoke for a cardiac catheterization and stent placement. The great news is that he is back at home in Rockbridge County and doing well. The bad news is that the Williams family will join millions of other Americans (26%) who will struggle to pay an unexpected medical bill. About 86% of people with medical bills report that these expenses are related to one time events or hospitalizations, and hospital and emergency department visits make up the largest dollar amount of these bills (Kaiser Family Foundation; The Burden of Medical Debt, 2016).
The Williams' family are the neighbors that you call on in an emergency: they are kind, hard-working and deeply rooted in the Rockbridge community. Please help them to get through this all too common emergency following an emergency in the U.S. : large unexpected medical bills. I know they would do the same for others!
