On October 12, we lost our beloved friend, esteemed mentor, supporter of so many of our schools and businesses, and sole proprietor of SmartyCo and West Coast Findings, John Vesowate. After more than thirty years at the heart of Portland's jewelry & metals industry, John left behind a vast community of people who adored him (including YOU!). It seems only right that we send him off in style.

We are raising funds for a memorial celebration - a fun, informal party where all those who loved him can gather, share stories, laugh and cry together. We envision an event with a slideshow of our special moments with him, the music he loved, food, drink and an open mic for anyone to jump in and share their favorite memories of "Smarty John."

We've mounted this campaign to defray the costs of hosting the event. Any additional funds raised will be used to help with the careful dissolution of the business.

We hope you will be able to join us that night, but you can show your love for John with a donation, even from afar. Any amount is helpful - even if you just cover the cost of food and drink for one guest.

While nothing will take away the pain of losing this pillar of our community, we hope the opportunity to come together to celebrate his life will honor his memory and bring us all peace.
