Emily Giffin is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of John Turner.
John is battling a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. CT scans showed a 1.7 cm mass on his pancreas, which increased in size prior to the second CT with contrast. John underwent an ERCP procedure, and a stent was inserted in the head of his pancreas to relieve severe jaundice on April 25th at MUSC in Charleston, SC. This procedure alone was over $42,000. Next week he’s having a port installed, and will begin chemotherapy treatment as soon as his bilirubin levels are low enough. At this time, he is scheduled for May 12th for his first chemo infusion. We believe he is in the hands of the best team of doctors, led by Dr. Paul O’Brien at MUSC. The chemo treatments will be every 2 to 3 weeks and are extremely costly.
John is truly one of the kindest, most selfless individuals around. He is gentle, thoughtful, a loving fiancé, a wonderful stepfather, an incredible grandfather, and a very hard-working man. It is so hard to see him struggling, scared, and in pain.
There are no words to describe the tragedy this family feels. John has not been able to work for the past several weeks due to unmanageable pain. This fund is being organized to alleviate some of the financial burden John and his family are facing. Please keep John and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
