John Sutton Memorial

John Sutton, known as the Big Ape, was a pillar in the Meadville fitness community for decades. From mentoring youth, training athletes to compete, guiding people back from injuries, and helping aging clients stay active and mobile, John was always there to help anyone. He went out of his way to talk to everyone and make them feel welcome at the gym. Regardless if you were one of his training clients or not, he was there to assist you with your form, teach you a new movement and even just being there to listen. He always paid attention to the details and asked about what was going on in your life. Whether he knew he was doing it or not, he created a camaraderie for everyone who was around him. From the day I met him, he extended a hand and was there anytime I called, texted or ran over to ask him for assistance.  He went out of his way to make each and every person he met feel like their story meant something and that he was honored to be a part of it. And you know if he has ever written anything for you that it truly comes from the bottom of his heart. John Sutton was a true friend, advocate and motivator. His kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. 

This fund was created to help John's son, Harley manage the family affairs. John extended a hand to everyone he met. We would like to share this kindness with Harley as a tribute to his father and our friend. Share your memories and how John has made a difference in your life.
