John Singer's Recovery #fidostrong

Dear Friends and Family,

On September 25, 2020 John Singer's life tragically changed in the matter of seconds. With the inability to move his legs and pain increasing in his body he contacted his son and family members for help. He was taken to Westmoreland Hospital where he was quickly diagnosed with a ruptured aorta. Despite COVID, the wonderful staff at Westmoreland Hospital allowed all his siblings, son, and daughter-in-law be by his side until he was life flighted to Shady Side Hospital. Through the long hours of the night, John fought hard for his life as the doctors repaired his ruptured aorta. Against all odds, he survived the surgery, but he wasn't in the clear. With potassium level increasing to life threating levels, life saving fasciotomy surgery was performed on both legs. Within the next several hours it was evident the surgery was a success. John's biggest battle now was recovery from hours of having circulation cut off through his body. His kidneys failed, he had a spinal stroke, he couldn't move his feet, his muscles were deteriorating, and he was placed on a ventilator.  He spent the next two months, at Shady Side Hospital to allow his body to heal. During this time he woke up, had a trach removed, underwent many additional surgeries on his legs, and got off the ventilator. John was then transferred to Mercy Hospital where he could begin his rehabilitation. Progress was slow at first due to a positive COVID test and skin graft surgery, but as time passed he became stronger, regained sensation in his legs and feet, managed to get off dialysis, and he started eating again. Over the past two weeks, during physical therapy, John was able to stand with assistance and walk a few steps with braces and other medical equipment. John is working hard at regaining his independence but it will take time.

He is getting ready to be transferred to a skilled nursing facility where he will continue his rehabilitation. After John has completed his stay at the skilled facility he will be sent home where he will need many home accommodations, motorized wheel chair, and other medical needs. Please join us in helping John prepare for acclimating himself back into society as a strong, independent man.  With your help we can get John the care he needs, walking again, back on the golf course, and back to working with the guys that he misses. We would forever be grateful for your generosity. If you are unable to at this time, John can use as many continued prayers and positive thoughts as possible. We thank you all more than you will ever know. Please share this page to help spread the word.
