I am John's oldest step-daughter and I created this GoFundMe on behalf of John and my mother/his wife, Nancy Severe to help financially. Please read on for more information.
On Friday evening, John & a couple of his co-workers were leaving the Novi area to head home for West Branch after being there all week for work. They got caught in backed up rush hour traffic and were nearly stopped when a large truck rear ended them at full highway speed (we suspect around 80mph). John was the passenger in the backseat. I do not know the full status of his co-workers, except one had minor injuries and was released from the hospital and the other is in ICU, and I do believe is expected to recover.
John, in the ICU in critical condition, has suffered severe injuries, including a skull fracture in the back of his head, a severe brain bleed that required emergency surgery, and most of his ribs on both sides were fractured, some in multiple places. His lungs are not cooperating due to the rib fractures and his blood pressure keeps dropping. John did not have any brain activity upon arrival to the hospital and has not improved, even with the surgery. He is currently on life support & cannot be resuscitated, if needed, due to the injuries to his ribs. According to the neurosurgeon & the trauma care physicians, John is not expected to recover. If, by miracle, he does recover, he will require 24 hour care & be in a vegetative state.
John and Nancy do not have life insurance to cover any funeral expenses and John was also the sole provider for them. Because the accident happened several hours from their home, my mom also is staying quite far from home to be near him during this traumatizing time.
All proceeds will be for any expenses that need to be covered at this time, regardless of the outcome.
