This fundraiser is now closed. You can support the causes John held dear with direct donations to the Somerville Dreamers scholarship fund and the Somerville Public Library ESL and Citizenship programs.
John Corcoran was a much-loved citizen of Somerville and the world whose generous spirit earned him the title "Mayor John."
John learned the names of every resident of his extended neighborhood and facilitated introductions and friendships. He had a remarkable gift for remembering the details of our lives. He honored our accomplishments, big and small, with handwritten notes and unexpected gifts and gestures.
For someone new to the area, a chance meeting with John at Diesel Café or along the bike path could lead to a lifelong bond. And even as John added continuously to his circle, longtime friends knew he would be the first to show up wherever and whenever they needed him, with cheer, good humor, and perhaps a box of Scranton chocolates.
With the support of John's family, a group of his friends is raising funds for several causes near to his heart in his adopted hometown of Somerville. Contributions will support the Somerville Public Library and existing scholarship funds for Somerville High School students.
