John Robertson

John was a familiar face in the community. Often seen at one of his many meet-ups or clubs, or in years gone by on long walks with his dog, Pippin and his beloved wife Val, who unfortunately passed away in 2019.

A book binder and print buyer by trade, John was a hard worker. He was a dedicated husband to Val, and father to their daughter, Jemma. He was a stickler for specifics, especially dates, and could recite every monarch, and Prime Minister in order. John would always try his hardest at any challenge put his way- if you ever needed something fixed, John was the person to call! Not only was he more than happy to help family and friends, but he also helped the community, volunteering at the gardening club at Elmstead Woods station, and turning his hand to DJing for Mencap activities.

John's real passion, however, was music. He had countless CDs, Minidisks, 45s and 78s which eventually almost took over the house! He loved showing off his vintage jukebox to all visitors, and even had a couple of vintage gramophones! If John wasn't listening to 60s hits, he could be found watching (and often quoting!) old comedies; Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Dad's Army, Liar, Liar, and Airplane being some of his favourites.

John was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer just a few short weeks ago, and although he faced the disease with courage, he ultimately lost his fight on 1st September. He will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, John requested donations to be sent to St Christopher's Hospice who were an incredible support throughout his final weeks.

John's life will be celebrated at Kemnal Park (A20 Sidcup By-Pass, Chislehurst BR7 6RR) at 3:30pm on Friday 22nd September.
The service will also be streamed via video link (Login: beke7715 Password: 729144).

The Wake will follow at Bromley Court Hotel (Bromley Hill, Bromley, London, BR1 4JD) from 5pm.
