Hi, my name is Valerie and I am John's wife. John was an over the road truck driver and loved doing it. I am retired and taking care of my elderly mother, so John was the primary breadwinner in our family. He wanted his own trucking company so he didn't have to pay other people when he was doing all the work. I worked hard to get the business running and then we were getting health insurance. John got sick before he ever made a run with his own company. We were told he needed immediate heart bypass surgery and heart valve repair. We had to go to Chattanooga, TN for the surgery, but they didn't get him into surgery for 6 days. After the surgery there were several complications that kept him in ICU for 11 days. John passed away in the hospital on Friday June 16, 2023. His hospital bills are astronomical and Mom and I don't know how we'll cover them. To qualify for financial assistance, you can't have more than $5000 in the bank. So we don't qualify.
