John Needs Your Help to Avoid Homelessness

My name is John Avignone, and I need your help. I live in Austin, TX. I'm 67 years old and partially disabled.

I need $3,500 to keep a roof over my head.

Last July, I was seriously injured in a car accident. I haven't been able to work since. The accident was clearly the other driver's fault. I have it on video. I've got an attorney, but the insurance company has decided to drag out the case for as long as possible.

My meager savings are long gone. The State of Texas has reduced my SNAP benefits from $192/month to $23/month. I can't pay my rent. I have no car, so I can't work. I can't rent a car to drive rideshare because I don't have the cash for the deposit.

My landlord has been very understanding, but there are limits. He's disabled and has congestive heart failure. He needs the money. I have to come up with $1,750 by 3/1, and another $1,750 on 4/1.

Everybody says it, but I really do hate doing this. I've never done it before, but I've exhausted all of my options. It's not a lot of money for many, but for me, it's the difference between having a roof over my head and living on the streets.
