John had open-heart surgery to replace his aortic and mitral valves with mechanical ones because of congenital heart failure. He almost died during his surgery and had to be shocked back to life several times. John was on life support for over a week and kept fully sedated. He has faced many challenges, including being on a ventilator, first with a breathing tube then a tracheotomy, several pacemakers, kidney dialysis (including dialysis lines being moved in his body several times), to just name a few of the big items. The surgeon told me that night of surgery he might not pull through, and UW asked if he had a living will. Luckily, John must have heard our prayers and fought to come back to life. This is still the beginning of his journey to full recovery, and the medical bills have started to come in from all the pre-surgery testing, appointments, and previous hospital stay. We are at $8,000 in debt to date and haven't even gotten to his surgery, ICU, and life support. Please help John pay for his out-of-pocket costs.
*Update: John was under palliative care until he passed away peacefully on May 30.
