My name is John Toomey. I live in Melbourne, Victoria and work as a Professional Speaker and Writer who specialises in Workplace Wellbeing and Men's Wellbeing. I also write on issues I feel troubled by or passionate about.

Over 10 years ago I responded to a connection request from a young man in Kenya. John had read some of my posts and articles online and was keen to learn. Over time I sent him links to books and sent him books. He read, he questioned and we shared ideas.

Times in Kenya are difficult. His family is poor. but he has always been optimistic. I have tried to find ways to support him to come to Australia through employment visa so he can work in the WA mines. That proved to be complex and tricky.

He is a Dad now and has added responsibility. Often, he and his wife go hungry to ensure their child eats.

Recently he came to me with a plan to start a business in his community where he could supply basics like flour, sugar, oils etc. He has a good plan and needs money for rent and starting stock.

So, I decided to set up this GoFundMe effort to raise funds to help him get started. He is a hard worker, so with some support, I feel he can do it.
