It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of John  Patrick  Howley announce his sudden death from a stroke on the 22nd of May, 2021.  He was born to Irish parents,  Eileen and John, in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 19thof December, 1953.  He was the oldest of four children, with siblings  Michael (Australia) and twins Allanah ( deceased) and Gerard (Edinburgh).
John was educated at St. Augustine Catholic School, Stirling University and OPEN University, receiving a degree in mathematics. He was inducted into MENSA International in the late 70’s.  He and Sheila Young met while they were students and married in 1975, embarking on a life-long adventure together.
A friend of all, John never met a stranger.  He was man for all seasons: hotelier in Edinburgh,  innkeeper in Barbados, engineer in Saudi Arabia, salesman in Ormond Beach.  A devout lay minister and reader at his beloved St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, he co-founded its thrift store and food pantry.  He was a raconteur, trivia meister, football fanatic (Up the Celts!! ), host of the annual Robert Burns Dinner, rescuer of Great Danes (currently Lita and Boots), devoted friend and caregiver to John  White, and faithful friend to anyone in need. The community will miss his unmistakable brogue and quick wit.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory and carry on his spirit, Sheila, his wife and support for 45 years,  his children, John Michael, his daughter, Allanah Armstrong (husband Brent), grandson Brody, and innumerable friends.
“He is not dead, this friend – not dead,
But in the path we mortals tread
Got some few trifling steps ahead
 And nearer to the end…”
                                                            Robert Burns
