John Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Screen & Research

Donation protected
Many of my friends and family have seen my recent postings supporting John Hopkins, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Massive Bio and the San Antonio - Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). Without getting anyone upset or worried, I think its time to explain what going on with me.

For the donations side of the house, my name is John and I am asking, something that goes against my grain, for help. Some background; our dad passed away last year from Pancreatic Cancer. When the doctor gave us his diagnosis, they said he had 8 weeks to live and 8 days later he passed. It was horrible, to say the least.

Our family, on my dad’s side, has a strong history of cancer, so I went to see my doctor for Cancer Genetic Testing for BRCA, and I was found to have that mutation. Following that, I had my doctor set me up with an MRI, and they found 3 cysts, one on the head of my Pancreas, one on my Liver and the third on my Gallbladder. Next, I requested a CEA CA 19-9 Cancer Blood Test and one of the markers were high. That’s not a diagnosis itself, but a good marker for this journey. And, I am a Type 1 Diabetic, Insulin Dependent, diagnosed at the age of 40, 2 years after being injured in an improvised explosive device (IED). Still not controlled.

I reached out to Cancer Treatment Centers of America who told me to get a second opinion with Massive Bio. I also reached out to John Hopkins for several Pancreatic Cancer Research programs and was accepted into 2 of them PLUS they asked that I personally come for an in-depth Pancreatic screening as well as onsite research.

So that is where I am at now. I am a retired US Navy Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient, multiple combat tours, who served half my career with the USMC as a Chief Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman and the other half as a Navy Diver Diving Medical Technician with Navy EOD and SIMA, to name a few.

My Insurance, Medicare and Tricare, will cover the medical expenses, so I am told. However, the traveling back and forth plus accommodations is where I could use some assistance. How many times? We don’t know at this time.

Your assistance and donation would be grateful, and please do not feel obligated.  I have an amazingly strong family and 4 little grandsons I would like to teach how to enjoy life and the great outdoors. I do appreciate you reading this and in advance, thank you. Please push this forward if you can.

I think $3000 should cover the expenses. My trip to John Hopkins is coming up fast, and I will definitely update this profile plus my FB to keep everyone informed. Thank you again.

Cheers,
John Christopher
