My name is John Martin – a 17 year veteran of BBVA. I’ve worked very closely with the Mortgage Operations and Mortgage Transformation teams over the past couple of years and as a result have spent most of my time over the past two years working in the Homewood Building in Birmingham. This has turned out to be a real blessing for me for many reasons, including the friendship I’ve developed with John Hicks, the head of our building security team.
I learned recently that John was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He’s undergone two surgeries over the past three months to remove some tumors. Lab results from his second surgery showed that the cancer had gotten more aggressive since the first surgery he had. He is now being treated with chemotherapy and will be traveling to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore in early March to meet with an oncologist to get a second opinion and discuss treatment options.
As you can imagine, what John is facing has resulted in some unexpected expenses, and more could be on the horizon. John is also having to use his vacation time for his two surgeries, to go to Baltimore, and to receive his chemotherapy treatments because his company does not offer sick leave. I’ve really bonded with John over the past couple of years and want to do something to help him get through this. I reached out to John to ask if I could establish a GoFundMe account for him so others can help alleviate the financial difficulties he’s facing. He readily agreed; which is why I'm reaching out to all of you.
I’m just a guy trying to help a friend who needs some financial assistance to battle a much-dreaded medical diagnosis. I invite all of you contribute to this fund as you feel led to do so.
