We are settled in at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. We are learning a lot, and they are learning about John. Multiple therapy sessions 6 days a week. They have specialists for speech, swallowing, vision, physical therapy (lower body and core stability), occupational therapy (arms, hands) and he is getting weaned off of his trache. We have a long road, but he is working hard. Thank you for all your generous donation that have allowed us to get him here, and will give us the extra help to keep him here as long as he needs to be to recover. The money raised here covered his first air ambulance from Canada back to the states, and the rest will be used to cover any additional time he may need here past the insurance coverage, and to help him when he is released with whatever he may need. Every dollar and prayer means the world to him and to us.

**Update**
We had no idea what the cost to get John transported would be, and the estimate to Wausau is close to $35,000. We are looking into hospitals and rehabilitation centers now, and will hopefully have him closer to home soon :) We are humbled by the level of support he has received so far and are ready to help him fight to win the race of his life!

As many of you have heard, our son, John Henke, had a very bad accident during one of his snowmobile heat races in Beausejour, Canada on Saturday, December 9 in the evening. John broke his neck at C1 which means his skull detached from his spine. This is a very scary injury for all of us, but we have seen a ton of improvement in this short time. John is responding to pain, blinks yes that he can feel when the doctors or us touch him, and is breathing on his own with very little help from a ventilator to simply push deeper breaths. His MRI also showed no concerns with his brain and his spinal cord is in tact and didn't appear to be damaged. We are seeing so many good things and our prayers are focused on continued healing. He has had surgery to reattach his skull to his spine and is now recovering still at a hospital in Canada. We are so incredibly thankful for everyone's texts, calls, comments, shares, concerns, and generosity, but mostly prayers through this time. Please keep the prayers going strong as we have seen the little improvements in John every day.

Although John has health insurance, it does not extend to Canada. These funds raised will be used to help pay medical bills in Canada and most importantly be used to transfer John back to the United States to get closer to home and begin rehab.
