Dear friends,
Our family is reaching out with heavy but hopeful hearts to provide an update on our dear John. He has been in the ICU at a hospital in Berlin, Germany, for over a month. What initially began as a trip to unveil a stunning photographic tribute to his grandfather, Walter, has turned into a totally unforeseen health crisis that has rocked all of us to our core.
John arrived in Germany with a purpose. Unfortunately, shortly after his arrival, he fell seriously ill, impacting his pancreas and kidneys. A couple weeks ago, a glimmer of hope emerged as he showed signs of improvement, only to face a sudden and life-threatening setback just after the New Year.
As of today, John remains intubated. He has valiantly battled complications from a super-infection that took an enormous toll on his body. The day-to-day fight is intensified by the challenges of being in a foreign country. The care he's received at St. Joseph Krankenhaus has been deeply appreciated, including the support of John’s new pals, Topper and Rick, who were there when he needed immediate help.
We don't know when he'll be off the ventilator, out of ICU, or even when he'll come home. We hold onto our faith fiercely, thanks to outpouring of love and support from friends and family worldwide—people John has touched and inspired, and those who have inspired him.
However, we can't ignore the major financial strain this unexpected situation is causing in the weeks and months ahead. John will undergo numerous procedures and likely surgeries, leading to a long-term situation that will affect his ability to earn and do the things he so passionately loves to do. Despite the uncertainties, we are confident that John's determination will inspire us all as he strives to come back stronger!
We humbly request your support. The funds we seek will cover John's increasing medical expenses in Germany and ensure a safe journey back home once he stabilizes. The truth is, we don't have a clear timeline, and the uncertainty is daunting.
This request isn't made lightly. We understand times are tough, and asking for help is never easy. Yet, we're compelled to be honest about the hurdles we're facing. John's warmth, humor, and kindness have touched lives, and together, we can make a difference in his journey to recovery.
If you find it in your heart to contribute, know that every bit counts. If you're unable to do so, your thoughts and prayers are equally valued. The familiar and comforting voices have shown signs of reaching John in these past few days.
We're not just seeking financial support; we're seeking a collective strength that transcends borders and brings John closer to home so he can recover, allowing him to be present for his wonderful kids and all those who care deeply for him.
John's journey is a testament to resilience, compassion, and an indomitable spirit that we cherish and love dearly. His exhibit in Hamburg, Germany, is his way of spreading inspiration for peace and positive change globally. Your help means the world to us, as it will lift the financial weight tied to life's unexpected turns. With your support, John can pursue meaningful work he's destined for, changing lives and making a huge lasting impact.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, for caring about our incredible son, brother, father, uncle, friend... and for being an incredible source of hope for our family during this challenging time.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Heinsen Family
