On May 24th my Dad John attempted to stand and fell to the floor, he was paralyzed from the waist down. He was rushed to the hospital and we found out he had clots forming in his groin that paralyzed him. At this time he was at Cape Canaveral Hospital and he had to be transferred to Holmes Regional to be able to have surgery. The surgery was a success, but short lived. Immediately after that surgery we found out he had a massive clot that extended from his waist to his neck which could not be removed so they had to put in a new vein, he also needed a stint in one of his arteries that could only be done by open heart surgery because of the condition of his lungs, and plaque removal from his carotid arteries. That surgery was performed on June 2nd and lasted 7 hours. Once coming off anesthesia they discovered he had a massive stroke and was immediately rushed back into surgery to stop the bleed and repair any damage. Thankfully a well known neurological interventionalist was called into do the emergency surgery.

He was then placed on a ventilator for two weeks. Then he came down with pneumonia and an infection in one of his incisions which meant a 5th surgery.

As of today he has been in the hospital for over one month with only three of those days being out of the ICU. John now has massive clotting in his right shoulder and the doctors are concerned they will go to either to his brain or his heart because he now has Afib. He is unable to lay flat for long enough to have an MRI because his blood begins to coagulate after ten minutes, so we still do not know the damage the stroke has caused and how much longer he will be in the ICU.

Anyone who knows John knows he loves what he does for a living and worked up until this tragedy happened. Thankfully his boss paid him one last paycheck two weeks ago but he does not offer short term disability or worker’s comp. Diane has applied for disability, Medicaid and other programs but sadly these programs will take months to be approved for.

Diane has been by his side everyday at the hospital so she is unable to work at this time, and we are not sure if she will be able to because of the extensive care John will need once he leaves the hospital. At a time like this we do not want Diane worrying about expenses but to be able to focus on getting John the best care possible and keeping her strength up. If your circumstances allow we would love for Diane to have help during this time.
