John Christian Hopkins' s Long Road to Recovery Continues

Good Evening, All,

I believe it was in early May 2025 that John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris told me, “We can stop doing the GoFundme. I don’t want to seem like we’re greedy.”

Thusly, I listened to what John/John Chris/Crit/Crsisa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris wanted. We had been fortunate to have numerous relatives and generous friends send us money for John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris’s medical bills, and monthly rent. We were also fortunate to find some charitable organizations such as St. Vincent dePaul, the Narragansett Nation Sachem Anthony Dean Stanton, Exeter Social Services who helped us with rent. I was able to pay some medical bills for John.

However, the medical bills continue to come in. Some I have paid off, but there are still numerous medical bills for John.

John's physical rehabilitation and hospitalization continues because on May 22, 2025, John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris had a check-up at one of his orthopedic doctor’s offices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. During the check-up visit, his doctor x-rayed his left hip area, and observed that his hip implant had dislodged. When I heard that I thought, “How does that happen to a person who can barely move?”

What was happening at that former nursing home in Warwick, R.I. is CNAs and other workers were pulling on John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris’s left side leg. (He broke his left femur on February 2, 2025 in Coventry, R.I.) I had observed this, and John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris told me about a few occasions when CNAs had pulled on his left leg.

I remember being upset about it, and I wrote that nursing home a letter and told them, “John C. Hopkins is not returning to this facility because he keeps getting injured by the staff.”
After that John was at a Boston facility, and a Westerly, R.I. facility. Currently, he is at Heritage Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Smithfield, R.I. He’s been there since late July. I have observed that the CNAs are not as rough as the other facility where John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris kept getting injured.

Also, on June 11, 2025, John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris had surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to take out the dislodged implant, and another type of implant was placed. John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris had to start all over, again, after June 11, 2025.

This is the longest that John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris has ever been hospitalized or at a physical rehabilitation center. One of his doctors told me, “He’s high risk.”

So, his recovery continues and he has not had major negative setbacks since June 11th, 2025. I pray daily that he is healing, and I have told him, too, to pray for himself, and for his hip to heal.

I visit him daily, and the new thing that I do is I slather Comfrey salve on John/John Chris/Crit/Crissa/Christjohn/JCH/Chris’s left hip, in an effort to heal his hip. I, also, apply Vicks Vapor Rub, on his chest so he does not get sick and on both his feet. This “trick,” was told to me by friends who wanted to stop getting colds. My Wisconsin Oneida friend, Nadine Escamea, is the one who told me about Comfrey and how it is used to heal broken bones.

This is a continuation of the GoFundMe page that we did during the Spring 2025, and so many friends and family who are generous, and the donations helped with John’s initial medical bills. The medical bills continue to arrive. I will give a break down of the bills that we have.

Mind you, I am the only one working. I work as an educator at the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter, Rhode Island.
