John Carter Tombstone
Donation protected
The John and Hannah Knight Libby Carter Family Organization has chosen to finally honor our common ancestor, John Carter, with a headstone. For 166 years his body had lain unmarked and generally forgotten.
After much study it was determined that the most likely burial place was in fact the Fletcher Cemetery in Rocky Run Township, Hancock County, Illinois. We have worked with the township cemetery board and obtained permission to erect a monument to John at no charge to the organization. We are working with Harrison Monuments in Quincy, IL and the stone we have chosen is shown on this page.
The total cost of the stone (including all taxes and charges) is $2619.69. We already have donations of $1180 - for which we are very appreciative. Based on the small fee charged by GoFundME we need to raise approximately $1500 through this campaign.
Our goal is to raise these funds in the near future so we can order the stone and then have it placed in Fletcher Cemetery in time for a family reunion there on July 26 - 27, 2019. At that time we will be able to honor John properly by unveiling this beautiful stone in his memory.
The beneficiary of this campaign will be Val Dunn, our organization's treasurer. He will be transferring all funds collected directly into our organizations bank account.
