Hello friends of John Carr! My name is Kristen and I am hoping that you can help out with this extremely difficult situation.
John suffers from CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) which is a neurological disorder (see link below). He had been waiting for months to be approved for the IVIG treatments recommended by his doctor. The insurance company kept denying the treatment. In the meantime, COVID happened which only served to further delay the process. His symptoms worsened to the point that walking, painful cramping and hand tremor were making life and especially, computer work, quite difficult.
In June, his boss decided to relocate and he lost his IT job and with it, his medical insurance. John's doctor was both kind and persistent enough to get him his initial IVIG treatment series through her hospital via the Emergency Room which forced the insurance company to pay before he lost his coverage. The treatments take time to work and he will still need maintenance treatments. The disease is causing his hands to shake so much that he has great difficulty doing computer work and fears he will not be able to find a new job in order to get insurance to cover the treatments which are time sensitive and must be maintained.
I am working to figure out what kind of health insurance he can get and I am looking into organizations that could help to cover some or all of the cost of the copays for the treatment. But all of this will take time and will require money that he does not have. If the treatments work, they will give him his life back. We are asking for financial support to cover insurance premiums and any deductible for him in the process and allow for him to continue these treatments until he can figure out what to do next.
