Establish a Grove of Trees Memorial Site for John Harkey
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
We are starting this GoFundMe campaign to establish a memorial grove of trees in honor of a our remarkable friend, John Bain Harkey, a lover of trees and valiant supporter of nature. As an advocate of healthy living, he was a board member of Walk/Bike Nashville earning two lifetime achievement awards while establishing bike lanes for safe commuting. As a champion for the planet, he promoted eating a plant based diet, was an early adapter and advocate for solar panels, and drove electric/hybrid vehicles. John lived his life aligned with his values and his passion was planting trees.
Working with Friends of Warner Parks, we have identified an area in Edwin Warner Park near Shelter 9 on a south facing hillside overlooking the Little Harpeth River which would be ideal for planting a grove of at least four trees and also placing a stone with a plaque as a memorial to John. The cost of planting each tree is $ 1500 and we estimate a rock and plaque will be $1000-$2000. Friends of Warner Parks commit to water and maintain the trees for the first three years. The trees will be native to the area and some will be selected for faster growth.
We hope that by noting some of John's contributions to improve our environment, it will inspire others to do the same. Any funds not used will be donated to Walk/ Bike Nashville as requested in his obituary.
Thanks for supporting this fitting memorial honoring John.
