I’m starting this GoFund Me request on behalf of my brother John L Sammons and his wife Susan.
Cancer is hard enough to battle for one family member but when a husband and his spouse are hit at the same time it’s devastating.
That’s exactly what has happened to them. Cancer has struck them both in the last few years.
John was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and underwent chemo followed by tests and multiple surgeries. After a year in remission, his bladder cancer returned. It was then decided to remove his bladder permanently.
This is an extremely debilitating surgery. A section of his intestine was constructed into a pouch and placed inside his abdomen. For the rest of his life, John must insert a catheter into his abdomen, every three and a half hours, in order to eliminate his urine. He will never again enjoy a full nights’ sleep as this process is to be performed around the clock.
He is battling his extreme weight loss and lack of stamina with the help of physical therapists, nurses, specialist doctors and stubborn determination.
Seven years ago, John’s wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer that metastasized to her brain. She too underwent multiple surgeries, chemo and radiation which left her with partial blindness and painful neuropathy.
Susan’s intention to be John’s caregiver was derailed when she suffered a seizure on the eve of his bladder surgery. Susan was transported to the hospital where she required emergent surgery for a circulatory blockage. She also needs home nursing, physical therapy and the ongoing care of multiple specialists.
By the Grace of God and modern medical miracles, these two continue an uphill battle. However, the bills are piling up since insurance does not cover all their medical needs and with the inability to work at this time, it has been very difficult to make ends meet.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated to help them have some breathing room until they can get back on their feet. And please continue with your prayers and well wishes for healing and endurance.
