Harvest School is a 3-month missionary training program hosted at 3 Iris bases in southern Africa. We will spend 6 weeks in South Africa, and 1 month in Mozambique. This will take place October 1st through December of this year. During the school, we will spend our weekdays in class along with our schoolmates and leaders from around the globe and from all age ranges. Classes will consist of extended prayer and worship together in God’s presence, listening to the Word, and learning from seasoned missionaries and ministers from all over the world. At each base, we will have opportunities to serve in the children's home, in local village feedings, and in regional weekend outreaches.
Harvest School occurs twice each year, and is just one branch of Iris Global’s overall ministry. Iris Global has bases all over the world through which His disciples are working and spreading the Good News of the Kingdom of God! In the name of Jesus, they stop to care for each hungry, sick, and needy person; they “stop for the one and believe for the multitudes!” People are coming to know Jesus all over the world through this ministry, and we are honored to be a part. We know that it is because of the Lord that we have been accepted to the school, and walk into this opportunity with the intention of serving as long-term missionaries with Iris Global. Harvest School is required to be eligible to serve long-term with Iris. There, our leadership team will be able to meet us in person, pray with us into what work God has for us in the future, and further interview us as candidates for long-term mission work. Though we do not know exactly what God has for us once school is over, we go with open hands and hearts knowing He will tell us what to do!
God has faithfully paved this way for us, having called us both to full-time ministry at young ages, sealed that calling in our marriage, and spoken to us that we have been made for such a time as this! Since January the Holy Spirit has been stirring our hearts, and we have heard him inviting us to lose our life so that we can truly find it. We have longed for a life of faith and storing up treasures in heaven (Luke 12)! Harvest School will be a much needed time of rest in God’s presence together, pressing into what He is saying over our life, and building up our muscles of faith in Him. We are thrilled to be surrounded by like-minded believers while serving the people of South Africa and Mozambique!
We invite you to come alongside us for this journey. We thankfully can’t do it alone and know that the Father is going to provide every need exceedingly and abundantly! We ask you to battle for us in prayer (James 5:16). Please pray that the transforming power of God would be so upon us that we would never be the same. Please pray that our life gets fully consumed by His love so that many may come to know Jesus and His Kingdom!
We have many financial needs, and have made a funding account available online if you would like to support in this way (http://gofundme.com/john-and-sam), or you can send a check to us at our mailing address before September 12th (1025-E Hunting Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27615). Tuition for the both of us, which includes classes, housing, and basic African meals (rice, beans, bread, and some fish), totals $4000. Additional costs will include all airfare, visas, insurances, drinking water, travel from base to base, any additional food, and extended outreach.
We also invite you to stay updated on our journey through our website blog, (thewayfaringrays.com). We will be updating this regularly prior to our departure, and occasionally during our stay in Africa (depending on internet availability).
We love you, bless you, and thank you for being a part of our life and for supporting us! We are so excited for this adventure!
In grace & love from the Father,
John & Samantha Ray
