John and Pam

My uncle John was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver in Dec. 2019. He was on the path for a transplant and was undergoing evaluation testing at the University of Iowa on April 20th, 2020 when a CT scan found inoperable liver cancer. He started treatments at the University of Iowa on May 11th to try to extend his life and give him a better quality of life. Pam and John went down to the U of I on Monday June 22nd for his third treatment, and the oncologist said that there is no indication that the treatments have been working. John has been on a steady decline since then. Pam brought Hospice on board on June 24th, which sadly was his 64th birthday.

Friends and Family have asked how they can help. Things are hard for many right now, so using this platform to share encouraging thoughts, prayers and heartwarming stories about John is the greatest gift. If you feel so inclined to give something monetarily to assist with various costs, including medical, and Pam's leave from work to be with John, feel free to give to this account as you are willing and able.

John has given so much to family and friends over the years.....always with his kind and encouraging words, genuine interest in others, and most specifically his considerable I.T. expertise. In case you didn't know, John loves learning, especially with computers. He is amazingly self-taught in this skill that has given him many years of an I.T. career here in Dubuque. His patience is unmatched by any other in my book. Although John just turned 64 years old, in his mind he is a young 46 ;). No job is ever too big or challenge too ambitious.

On a personal note, John has called me his little sister, and I adore him like a big brother, with his jolly laugh and wonderful bear hugs. He and my god-mother Pam got married the same year as Adam and I, and our family is so thankful they chose Dubuque over San Diego for their married life. Pam says she is blessed to be loved the way John loves her. Their shared love created a beautiful daughter who is now in her teens and most precisely "Daddy's little girl."

Please keep John, Pam, and their daughter in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to walk this incredibly difficult path. We love them all dearly and so wish we could do more to ease their pain.
