John and Marion Moffett

Hi there, our names are Michael, Nathan, Rob, Luke & Sean, and this story is about our friend John, and his mother Marion. We have all been friends with John well over 20 years, and he was the best man at Michael's wedding and vice versa. John was a truly great guy - he had a great sense of humour, and really knew how to have a good time, and when things were tough, he was the best friend you could wish for, full of support, always patient and caring.

We've known the rest of John's family for this time, and they are a genuinely lovely family, really decent people, and it was easy to see how John was such a nice guy when you met his family. Sadly, his dad Stuart had a stroke a few years back shortly after retirement, which has seriously reduced his mobility and speech. His mother Marion stepped up to the plate and looked after him with the support of John and his sister Sarah.

Tragically, in October 2023, John passed away suddenly at the age of 42 due to a heart attack. It was a huge shock to his family and friends which we are all still coming to terms with. As if that wasn't tragic enough, there were delays in the post mortem process due to admin and operational mistakes by the authorities, and his mam Marion passed away during this period at the age of 70 despite being in good health previously, it appears the trauma was simply too much for her.

John's sister Sarah is now left with looking after her son Flynn, who she looks after on her own, as well as her dad. The family are left having to deal with the huge trauma that recent events have brought, and also adapting to a very difficult day to day situation for all involved.

To try and raise some fund to support the family, 10 of us are going to climb up Scafell Pike on June 22nd. John tried to conquer a mountain range in Argentina in his student days, we thought this would be a fitting tribute.

It's not often we ask for support, but hopefully you will agree this is a truly tragic case, and any support you can give to help pay for care and support for Stuart, to help Sarah and her son Flynn would be hugely appreciated.
