John & Linda Schlager - Cancer
John and Linda Schlager are devoted parents and grandparents. They live in Albuquerque, NM after leaving their Carver, MA home in 2011. John left his siding business back in Massachusetts, while Linda continued her job at CVS.
John was diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma two years ago. Surgery removed it all, but left him with a large scar. A couple months ago, he had some swelling in his neck which was assumed to be related to a recent cold. As it turns out, it was cancer in his lymph node. Surgery removed it and the surrounding neck tissue just 3 weeks ago. The pathology revealed it was Stage 4 melanoma. He starts radiation next week with chemo to follow.
As the worst of luck would have it, the week before John's surgery, his wife, Linda, was in terrible pain and rushed to the ER by ambulance. There they found a mass on her liver that had previously been seen, but was now much larger. She rallied and carried on working while waiting for more tests to figure out what was going on. To make a very long story short, she has been diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. We still do not know what treatment options are available, but are hoping there are options and she will make a full recovery.
What we do know is that the cost of treating two people for cancer at the same time is going to be extremely expensive. It is with great reticence that they agreed to allow me, their daughter, to set up this fund for them. They are the last people to ask for help. I will update it as this story unfolds, but anything you can give would be very appreciated.
Thank you so much.
