We started this GoFundMe to help our sweet cousin Johannon and his amazing family. For those of you who may not know the facts, on June 26, 2019 Jojo, his mother, Anna Payne Ingram, and his two siblings were driving in Tupelo, MS when they were hit by an uninsured driver. The force of the impact hit the van so hard that the side door was knocked off and the roof torn away. As the van spun around it was hit a second time by another vehicle. 10 year old Johannon, sitting in the third row in the center, bounced around repeatedly due to the rotation of the impact. The great amount of rotational force on the van caused Jojo to have bleeding, swelling, and microscopic damage in the left side of his brain from diffuse axonal brain injury. He was transported by medivac helicopter from the scene to Lebonheur Children’s hospital in Memphis, TN, then later moved to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS, where he will only be allowed to stay for 3-4 weeks due to insurance restrictions. The rehabilitation will be a considerable financial burden as Anna will not be able to return to her elementary teaching job for several months and will have to be with Johannon and serve as his teacher until he can return. The road to recovery will take several months. Normally, Jojo would be starting 5th grade in August, but will most likely not be able to return until January. For the next several months, he will need 3 hours of daily speech, occupational, and physical therapy as he learns to walk, talk, and do the daily things we take advantage of such as opening a jar, riding a bicycle, tying a shoe, brushing his teeth, and feed himself. At this time, his balance, ability to speak and reason, and use of his right hand remain affected and he works til he is exhausted from his therapy 5 days a week. He is strong and determined, as usual!
As you can imagine, Anna and her husband, Terrance, will incur significant expenses in connection with Jojo’s rehabilitation, which will not otherwise be covered by insurance or other resources. In addition, Terrance was injured at work and is required by Workman’s Comp to have surgery in August, adding to the family financial worries. Please help if you can.
