My name is Maria C. Martinez. I am trying to raise funds on behalf of my granddaughter DeOndrea Lucero, who lost her beloved husband, Johnathan Lucero, on 31 December 2023, Johnathan was a loving husband and father.
Johnathan (Johnny) served in the U. S. Army for fourteen years. His military occupational specialty was Combat Engineer. He was a model soldier. He was deployed to the Middle East, four times, serving in two different countries, in the midst of the darkest days there. He earned two bronze stars for his service there.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and son, and friend to many. His wife and children, mother and siblings were his life.
The loss of Johnathan has left his family in shock and despair. De'Ondrea is left to raise her two children as a single mother. The agony of dealing with the reality of losing Husband and Daddy began with word of his death and continues constantly. Grief counseling is desperately needed for this devastated family.
We are hoping to raise funds to support the costs of the funeral, counselling for De'Ondrea and the children. The funeral costs are unknown at this time. Additional funds raised will also enable De'Ondrea to stay home for a period of time, to be there for her children and help them heal. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Veteran suicide has become an epidemic in the United States. From the web we have learned that 22 veterans commit suicide daily in the United States. This number has been blasted across the outlets of the mainstream media as a call to action for the advocates of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans; the group that seems to be the most at risk." 23 out of every 100 (or 23%)had PTSD at some point in their lives, .
