The Story
For two and a half years now, my wife has been battling a progressively worsening autoimmune condition. Through countless doctors, tests, and scans, we have chased symptoms struggling to find an underlying cause. In December 2016 her neurologist, a world-renowned brain specialist in New York, ran brain scans as well as numerous blood panels revealing for the first time inflammation throughout her brain. The neurologist diagnosed her with a systemic inflammatory condition and slow cognitive decline, but he couldn’t pin point what started it. As her condition seemed rare, it was hard to find what started this. We were told if the cause was not found, she would continue to decline, and her brain would continue to degenerate. But the hope in this is we were told this is reversible and so we had been in a race to find someone that could help my beautiful wife.
With the passage of time, it has been the hardest thing to see her decline. Her body, energy levels, weight levels, and brain function have been broken down more and more. We found a local neurologist that has been working with her doctor in New York and he thinks they finally found the issue. Her body may be attacking itself due to severe low cortisol and hormone issues and he sees what he believes may soon become full blown adrenal failure, ie Addison’s disease. It would have been a simple fix if addressed early on, but it has gone overlooked and now as time has gone on, her body sees it as an infection, and so her immune system has been killing its basic functions. As the doctor says, there really isn’t a happy ending if she doesn’t receive the treatments to reverse this immediately.
It is clear that she needs serious treatment to give her body what it needs to stop the inflammation, and then to repair the damage. The doctors want to use several treatments to “turn off” the inflammation followed by stem cell therapy to restore her body and rebuild from the damage of chronic inflammation.
We have complete trust and faith in Christ, that he will provide for healing and ultimately it is He who will heal her. We have fought for so long and we need a miracle for Johanna and we just know God can perform this. We have faith this can happen, but we have spent tens of thousands in out-of-pocket medical expenses over the past 2-1/2 years. With the treatments as prescribed we face thousands more, but this is where you come in. We are setting out to raise $20,000 as a start to help cover treatments, and we sincerely need your help to do this quickly, as her brain and body are in serious decline.
