I’m back again, running a stupid distance for “fun”! Saturday 16th August I’ll be running 65k with 2700m elevation!

Every year my motivation has come from a dedication to raise funds for someone in need. Dash for Dave, Run for Riley and this year I’m dedicating my run to my dad. I’m jogging for John!

The Story:

Towards the end of 2023 met my dad with multiple brain surgeries, over a meter of titanium coils inserted into his brain to stop blood supply vein at risk of bursting. Faced with short term memory loss and trouble recalling names, from a minor stroke, we never would have guessed this was only the beginning of the health saga.

Less than 12 months later, end of 2024, a routine endoscopy brought to light a large tumour in his oesophagus. He went through chemotherapy and radiation before the surgery to remove a section of his oesophagus and reattaching his stomach. The recovery was rough, but he marched on, determined to get back on the bike.

The follow up appointment brought us with the most amazing news we could have hoped for. The biopsy samples of tissue and lymph nodes from the surgery were analysed and came back with cancer undetectable in all samples, a complete success!

Barely 2 months from getting that news, a quick trip to the hospital for a sore leg checkup turned into 3 months and counting, with scans finding cancer is back on the bone in the upper leg, lower spine and now his neck. A hip replacement would see a lot of cancer cut out from the leg to buy some time while we started the chemo and radiation again, which is ongoing for now.

Dad’s looking like he can come home in the coming few weeks but mobility is still very limited.

This year, I want to alleviate the financial burden on my dad and family. The money from this fund raiser will go directly to my dad, John Hoye, for various expenses relating to his health conditions.

Any donation will be very greatly appreciated. Please only donate if you want to, and as little as you feel comfortable with.

If anyone is struggling with cancer, or a loved one with cancer, please reach out.

Much love from the Hoye family ❤️
