HELP!
My beloved dog (and first fur child), Joey, is about to have a costly emergency surgery today due to an acute spinal injury. Prior to this, Joey was completely healthy, happy, and very physically active.
In the midst of this, I am also...
- apart from my husband who is in an intensive work training program in another state
- in the process of relocating to another state due to work, which includes the process of selling our current house and finding a new home
- recovering from an upper respiratory infection from last month
- dealing with post concussive symptoms after getting rear-ended a week ago
It has not been an easy road. But, Joey has always been there for me. No matter what the cost, I knew that I had to be there for him.
Joey and I have been inseparable for the last 8 years, he's been my partner-in-crime when
- I was alone during weekends & holidays while my husband was working retail
- I brought him to work at my dog-friendly offices
- I was on medical leave from work and getting hospital treatment last year
About Joey
Age: 9.5
Sex: Male
Breed: Dachshund/Terrier Mix
Adopted: 1.5 years old from Pet Rescue Center of OC (now closed)
Interests: Food, hiking, play dates, skateboarding with hubby
Sibling: Latte, 9 months (rescued Nov'18)
Joey's Current State
Photo: Joey's position for last 36-48 hours

Video: From being "slower" due to discomfort to full paralysis. Joey is unable to sit up, stand, or go potty
Diagnosis
(As well as I can recall) Slipped disc, spinal cord compression causing paralysis, above average hemorrhaging.

Prognosis
The neuro-surgeon believes he will have a full recovery with minimal deficits. Meaning, he'll be back to his normal fun-loving, people-loving, selective dog-loving self with a full quality of life.
Surgery & Post-Op
Surgery is a bit more complicated due to the nature of the case. It will take 3-4 hours. Joey will be hospitalized for 3-4 days. Recovery will take one month of full bed rest.
Humble Request
Friends & family, can you please help cover this unanticipated cost? I don't have any savings and am overwhelmed by current circumstances. Monetary support is necessary ASAP so we can pay off this expense, and focus on our jobs and relocation. Any contribution will be wholeheartedly appreciated. No amount is too small.
We want Joey to live his best life until the end of his life through old age. He shouldn't go before his time, and we're not ready to let go of him.
With gratitude,
Jane & David
The vet bills are no joke
Initial vet appointment and bill
Animal hospital vet visit for neuro consult + emergency surgery

Some sweet memories of Joey...
