Our children are a blessing from God. They start as precious baby’s and grow into amazing children. What becomes a surprise is God’s plan for all of us. “My Father is always at is work to this very day” (John 5:17). What is hard to understand is how is it possible that a five-year-old child should have to go through such of a horrific process in their life. Joey Lynn Benck was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on 01/21/2016. Most of us have never heard of AML, let alone can begin to understand what it involves. Our job is to know that God is working through Joey to mold her and her family, no matter how hard it may seem. “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me” (John 12:26).

AML is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells, characterized by the rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells that accumulate in the bone marrow and interfere with the production of normal blood cells.  A quickly progressive malignant disease in which there are too many immature blood-forming cells in the blood and bone marrow, the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells are made. This cancer is a very aggressive cancer that attacks the entire body.

The treatment for this disease is just as aggressive as the cancer is, so Joey’s life and body will be turned inside out and upside down for the next 8 to 9 months. Best case scenario she will be cured in 9 months; worst case scenario she will be cured in 2 years. Joey will receive chemo for 10 days straight and then spend the next 4 to 5 weeks in recovery at the hospital. She will get a 2 to 7 day break and back to treatment with basicly the regiment for the next 8 to 9 months. Joey is a very brave little girl as one of God’s disciples, and has a great support system. Joey’s mother and father has spent every minute by her side, which brings us to our request.

Both of Joey’s parents are not working and will not be working until Joey is cured. A lot will be needed through this process, although All Children’s Hospital does have a lot of help, great doctors and nurses, it is not going to be enough to keep this family above water. There are things like their rent that needs to be paid, car payments, insurance, and other bills to keep a home for Joey when she can come home. God delights in using ordinary people to accomplish His purpose. He deliberately seeks the weak things and the despised things because from them He receives the greatest glory (see 1 Cor. 1:26-31). Be one of God’s Angels and provide for this family. Any amount of money will add up to the needs of this family, so if it is just $5.00 that you can donate or $100.00 everything will be appreciated. It takes a nation, not just the parents, to get a family through a life changing tragedy. We know God is at work and will touch your hearts to help this family in their need. “The Son can do nothing by himself” (John 5:19).
