Joey Turner- Memorial Fund

It is with deep sadness that I write this. My name is Aimee, I am Joey's aunt. Our hearts are broken. Joey, age 32, was a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and father. He was fun and full of life. Joey was the first grandchild of Carolyn Morgan and Edward Stevenson. He was so loved by his mother, Melanie, step father, Tim Kerr, and all who would have the privilege of meeting him. He was a happy-go-lucky baby and child, and would smitten you with his charm.

Our family has many fond memories of him loving Jesus, making jokes, calling him Joey Tatoey Baboey, him giving us the side eye to make us laugh, impersonating Jim Carey in The Mask (“Somebody, stop me!”) dancing, singing, evangelizing, preaching, passing out tracts to his neighbors (insisting to his mother that he shake their hands), playing with his sisters and brother, praying and teaching himself to play the guitar and writing honest and compelling lyrics, beginning as a preteen. His love of music only grew over the years and he had big dreams to play and sing, a true musician. Positive, care free, and chatty are a few words to describe him. Honestly, he could talk or sing to a rock, and it would very happily return the sentiment. Here is a beautiful, instrumental piece he recently wrote. https://youtu.be/pRxEQh8cdVQ

On May 4th, 2021, Joey was found deceased in his apartment in New Orleans, Louisiana. An ambulance was called but it was too late. As of right now, the cause of death is unknown. He had recently completed 6 months of rehab, was in good spirits, and was hopeful for his future.

We humbly ask for your thoughts, prayers and financial support to help his mother and step father pay for the funeral expenses if your heart is moved to give, any amount is a blessing. Joey will be transported to Denton, and laid to rest this coming week. Melanie and Tim are the most hard working couple I know, and unfortunately they are not financially prepared for this burden. Please feel free to give on this Go Fund Me, or on the Dewberry Funeral Home Memorial Page directly, in which the link will be added shortly. Please also feel free to share your precious memories of Joey below, as it will bring us comfort during this difficult time.

He is survived by his sons; Noah Phoenix, and Hayden, his girlfriend of 13 years; Alex and her daughter, Skylar, his mom; Melanie Kerr, step Dad; Tim Kerr, 5 younger sisters; Anna, Amanda, Jaidynn, Jailynn, and Jaidynn, as well as his younger brother, Jon-Marc.

We hold on to all the good that was Joseph Edward Turner, and all of the love and mercy that is found in Jesus. We trust that Joey is singing with the angels and worshipping Jesus. We know that he is healed and made whole, without pain or suffering. Without his struggles. We know he is cutting up and giving them a few laughs. We celebrate his life and miss him dearly.

“Oh death, where is your sting? Oh grave, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:55“Precious in the sight of the Lord, are the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15

We will share regular updates regarding Funeral Arrangements including the viewing and reception as soon as we have them.
