Joseph Marnell was in a serious motorcycle accident on June 29th of this year(2018). His injuries are extensive, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury and currently has no bone flap (skull) covering his brain on the right side. He also has a broken right hand that was splinted for 7 weeks. He is unable to walk due to the extensive broken bones on his right leg/ankle/foot needing to heal before he can use it. He has had 4 surgeries already and at least one more ahead of him to replace the fractured fragments of his skull on the right side with a prosthetic skull. As you may or may not know, he was self employed mechanic and had no medical insurance to cover this tragic event leaving him with million dollars in medical bills.
He is now at home requiring 24/7 care from his family members because an inpatient rehab will not take him without insurance and is requiring a $30,000 down payment to cover only 3 weeks. Since he is still not able to use his right foot, which required multiple surgeries to repair, the Ortho-Surgeon said maybe in 4 more weeks. He did prove he didn't need his tracheostomy but he is still not able to eat well so he is getting majority of his nutrition through a tube surgically placed in his stomach. We have been granted 12 visits of Outpatient donation visits with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, this will get him 6 weeks of 1 hour visits twice a week. Due to Joseph's extensive injuries he will need months of rehab to recover from his devastating accident. He has aphasia, left sided weakness, impaired vision, a long metal rod holding his right leg/foot together and will need to re-learn how to walk and do simple day to day functions.
We have had numerous prayer warriors (friends and family) helping with keeping the Faith strong in these trying times. Prayers are a powerful tool in dealing with this and we have seen amazing results from Joseph throughout the last 8 weeks.
The family is attempting to raise money for his comprehensive rehabilitation which will be a long journey. Thank you for your consideration
Update: Joseph has been doing extremely well since being released by the hospital in mid August. Joseph is headed to two surgical procedures this week, today, 10-18-2018, to amputate a portion of one of his right fingers because the skin and bone is dead due to his accident. Tomorrow he is having a critical neuro surgery to place a prosthetic skull cap portion over the right side of his brain due to that accident. Please wish him luck and all you prayer warriors, please keep him in your prayers. Thank you all for your generosity and thoughts and prayers.
