My name is Iris Mendez, I am a native of Norwich Connecticut (Rose City). It is with great pain that I write this today yet with the strength God has given me I write this humble message. On Sunday October 15, 2023 my younger brother Joey Melendez suddenly passed away at the age of 42. He was living in New Jersey, Joey was at work when his heart gave out on him. He knew he had a heart condition yet, regardless of his health his mission and priorities in life were his two children and remaining a good citizen. So, like any parent Joey made it to work every day to support his precious children Josiah and Deja. His one desire in life was to go home to CT, the love he had for his family was so great, his last words to us was I want to go home. This said we want to grant him one last request. He was one of nine children and will be missed terribly there are no words that can describe the pain we feel. Son to Abinel Melendez and Junior Melendez, leaving behind his children and remaining siblings Gabriel, Neftali, Jerimiah, Abigail and Myself he know rest with Vanessa, Nate and Rosa.

During this time of grief my family is asking everyone who knew or did not know Joey if they can donate something to help bring his body home-to Connecticut. Unfortunately Joey did not have coverage to help with burial services. We will post the funeral address once we have the final details. All who new and loved him are more than welcome to be with us.
