Joey and Veronica Kennedy House Fire Fund

On the evening of March 16, 2021 Joey and Veronica Kennedys Birmingham, Alabama home caught fire and has been deemed "unlivable." They were able to save their many rescue dogs but sadly, lost their cat named Smudge in the devastation. Their dogs are safely kenneled for the time being, and they are currently in a nearby hotel.
In addition to losing their beloved Smudge, many personal items were lost as well. This tragedy is currently unfolding and in the coming days we will know more about the extent of their loss and the damage.
Anyone who knows the Kennedys or has visited their home knows just how special they are. Nicole and I call them "Maja and Faja" and they are two incredible humans. They have dedicated their entire lives toward the education of others. Both English professors at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), their impact on young minds over many years has been remarkable. Just ask Nicole- Veronica was her English professor and Joey later walked her down the aisle during our wedding. They even surprised us with our French Bulldog "Arnie" as a wedding gift.
While Veronica is retired and currently battling her own health issues, Joey remains one of the most popular and LOVED English professors (and writers) at UAB. He even won a Pulitzer Prize and continues to write a weekly column for the Alabama Political Reporter.
They have already suffered the incredible loss of multiple elderly rescue dogs in 2020 alone. During a pandemic- this only makes such a horrific event even more heartbreaking for them.
Please consider donating. They are going to need food, clothes, shelter, and assistance with their animals as they rebuild all that was lost. We will continue with updates based on their needs as time goes on.
The Kennedys would do whatever they could to help anyone or any animal in need, and now it is our turn to help them.
