Hello, my name is Brittany Poliquin.
Six days ago I came home from the store to find my husband Joseph having convulsions, mouth full of blood, soaked in urine, and completely out of it. I still have no idea how long he was in that condition. Could’ve been thirty minutes, could’ve been two hours.
Immediately 911 was called & he was brought to the ER Trauma center. He continued to convulse for hours. They couldn’t get him sedated. He was coming out of it to fast. After about 5-5.5 hours he was finally sedated, intubated and resting.

The next night they lowered the sedation with the goal of waking him as long as he didn’t go into convulsions again. Luckily he didn’t and he woke late that afternoon. They removed the tube, and continued checking for anything and everything for answers. Constantly pumping fluids and antibiotics. He was extremely confused, and exhausted so he spent the next day or two resting. Days have been passing in a blur honestly. I noticed very quickly he was no himself. Looking into his eyes, he wasn’t there, not the same him at least. He seemed to be having blanks in his memory. They assured me it was normal, probably just the medicine. A couple days it would be out of his system and it would be better.

We’re still here six days later, unsure of how much longer we will spend in the hospital. His short term memory is still pretty much non existent. I have to tell him the story of why he’s here everyday, several times a day. Remind him that we aren’t in Louisiana. He’s shocked every time over and over again. He doesn’t remember passwords to his phone. Doesn’t remember things that were said five minutes ago. They tried two times for a MRI after me begging them to do one for four days. His claustrophobia was the worst the tech had ever seen. Finally the third attempt was a success. I’m still waiting on the Dr to come in to read the full report and let me know what’s going on, what to expect and what can be done. The nurse gave me a short version. Seizures, lack of oxygen to the brain while he was seizing, caused damage to his brain. How much or how bad I’m not sure. Waiting for the Dr to come in and let us know that.

We just moved here not even a full four months ago , and now I’ve been missing work, he can’t work, and I’m not sure what the future is going to look like.

I’m making this with hopes we won’t lose everything we worked to have. We just started life here. Even moving home at this point isn’t possible , with neither of us being able to work at the moment. Anything helps and I truly appreciate you all. Even if all you can offer is a prayer, good vibes, or well wishes.
