My name is Michael Guillot and I am reaching out to everyone on behalf of my friend, Joe Richey. I've only known Joe for a few years, but he has had a profound effect on my life in countless ways. Now, it's time to try and repay the favor...
From the Richey family:
We have not given an update in some time, and ALL of our prayer warriors, friends, and supporters deserve to know what has been happening. So much has unfolded in the last several weeks, and while the details are lengthy, we cannot leave them out—because through it all, God’s faithfulness has been evident, and we give Him ALL the praise and glory, especially in the midst of the storm.
The Battle with Obstructions
For most of July, Joe has battled a bowel obstruction that would not go away. Since before his diagnosis in January 2023, he has endured around 25 obstructions—sometimes three or four in a single month. Normally, they cleared within 48–72 hours, but this time was different.
Doctors believe the obstructions are caused by inflammation released by his active tumors, which his intestines absorb. In July, however, a tumor grew from 2.7 cm to 3.9 cm and began physically pressing on the intestine, creating a more severe and persistent obstruction.
The Difficult News
After multiple hospitalizations, his doctors told us that there were no longer treatment options available—his trial was ended, and he was eventually placed on hospice care. Those words hit like a gut punch: “We have exhausted all treatment options.”
Yet even in that moment, we turned to prayer. I laid hands on Joe’s stomach and began praying, and the Holy Spirit completely took over. Hours later, we received the X-ray results: NO signs of obstruction. After 10 days of barely eating or drinking, the obstruction was simply gone. We know this was nothing short of God’s miracle.
A Season of Transition
Joe underwent a G-tube vent placement on August 12th and, by God’s grace, has not had to use it since August 15th. While he is still weak—down to 160 lbs, battling severe stomach spasms, and unable to eat much—he is pressing forward day by day with strength from the Lord.
We have peace about closing the door on MDA and believe that God is leading us into a new season. On August 21st, Joe and I will begin a three-week journey with a new medical team. This means leaving behind our children, home, family, and work, trusting God to provide what we need.
How You Can Help
This season is not only physically and emotionally difficult—it is financially challenging as well. Joe is taking a leave from work, and I will likely have to step away from my remote job while traveling with him. With medical expenses, time away from home, and the added strain on our family, we are asking for support.
Your prayers mean more than anything. Please pray for:
Joe’s complete healing and strength.
Peace and comfort for our three children while we are away.
Strength for the family members caring for them.
Provision for our financial needs during this time.
If you feel led to contribute financially, it will help ease the burden of medical costs, travel, and lost income as we walk this road together. We know that God has never forsaken us, and He won’t start now.

Closing
We are standing in faith, believing in God’s promises and miracles for Joe’s life. Tomorrow is a new day, and we trust that God is not finished with his story. Thank you for walking alongside us in prayer, love, and support.
With gratitude and faith!
