Joelsky’s Journey

If you know Joel at all, chances are you might love him ;)) He is one of a kind for sure. Joelsky’s journey started a couple of months ago when he started losing weight, wasn’t able to eat much, had terrrible heartburn and was sleeping more than usual. Who doesn’t have heartburn and feel more tired than usual?? That’s what is so important in his story is that you listen to the signs that your body is telling you. Awareness is key!! At 53 years old you expect to not feel as great as you once did but after some persuading from his wife Joel went to the doctor who in turn sent him to a gastroenterologist who then sent him for an EGD. It was on July 30th that Joel was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma Barrett’s esophagus. A form of esophageal cancer. This is a result NOBODY wants. After more tests and scans they have unfortunately found that the cancer has spread to his liver. He just started chemo treatment on Tuesday Sept 27th. We are praying that he may qualify for other options but of course insurance has to approve. Such a shame that with the world we live in insurance can determine a person’s life and outcome. We are asking for anything anyone can give to help with medical expenses as well as the time off and travel needed for Joel. Rachel has of course been by his side every step of the way. This has been a complete shock and is going to be a VERRRY long road ahead for the both of them. Anything at all that could be contributed would be insanely appreciated. Of course with a battle like this the last thing that they should be worried about are all of the medical expenses piling up as well as the unpaid time off of work. Prayers, positive vibes and thoughts are needed more than anything right now. I promise to keep you all posted as Joelsky’s journey unfolds. I know if anyone can beat this it is him!!
