Joel’s Way: Help MDSC Continue Joel's Legacy

Story

Hi, I’m Leah, and I’m raising funds for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress (MDSC) in honor of my incredible uncle, Joel, who wasn’t just family. He was my best friend, my biggest supporter, and truly more like a brother to me. My Uncle Joel was deaf and nonverbal, but he communicated more deeply and lovingly than most people ever could. His ability to express joy, affection, and humor without words was something truly special. Everyone who met him became a better person. He made people laugh with his sharp sense of humor, and he had a heart that radiated warmth. He loved his family more than anything. He found joy in the kitchen, watching classic movies like The Invisible Man, and tuning into favorite shows like Batman. He adored babies and children, lighting up whenever they were around. His presence was calming, funny, and full of unconditional love, a love that changed everyone lucky enough to know him. On June 17, 2024, we said goodbye to him after his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, which is heartbreakingly common among individuals with Down syndrome. His passing is a reminder that this community deserves more research, more resources, and more support. By donating, you are honoring his legacy and helping ensure that others with Down syndrome can live longer, fuller lives and continue to bring light to the world, just like he did. Thank you for supporting this cause so close to my heart.
