Joel's Journey: Beyond the Scars

As many of you know, Joel's cancer returned in December 2025. He was originally diagnosed in 2024, where a small surgery took place, leaving him in the clear for 14 months. January 2026 was a whirlwind for our family; however, with God's blessings, love, and guidance, we made it through. We stayed focused on what needed to be done.

On January 11th, Joel's cancer took a massive curve. He was taken to the ER and had emergency surgery to stop an active bleed. That surgery was successful. He then had another surgery a few hours later to cut blood supply to the tumor, also successful. Then on the 13th, not-so-good news: a scan showed that action needed to be taken immediately, with life-changing choices. In hopes of outshining the best quality of life, he decided to have his tongue & voice box removed along with lymph nodes and part of his jaw shaved. That 12-hour surgery was on January 16th. It was successful, and we all feel relieved. Joel is strong & courageous! He communicated with us shortly after surgery! He is healing well! His recovery will be very lengthy; he will eventually be doing chemo & radiation.

As Joel and our family transition to this, we ask that you please be patient with all of us. We will gladly accept prayers! After a total of 52 days being inpatient in the hospital, he finally got to come home on March 4th! He has transitioned very well and is doing remarkable! Stacey takes the best care of him, making sure he gets to all his appointments, completes his feeds, takes medication, and whatever else may come up that day. He is doing radiation 5 days a week and also has chemo on 2 of those days. He started treatments on the 9th.

With life-changing events, also comes a lot of expenses. We have had several people ask how they can help, so we decided this is probably the best route to go. We will be adding an Amazon wish list once we get a list of items that are needed for his daily care. We appreciate prayers and we thank you for reading this.
