Hello friends,

My name is Federico Carvajal, I am one of the many people who had the privilege and joy of having Joel be a part of our lives. Joel was generous, caring, loyal, principled, fierce, compassionate, and unrelenting. He was a loving and dedicated father, husband, son and brother, a tireless advocate for social justice, a trade unionist through and through, and without question the best friend anyone could hope for.

As we deal with the loss of such an amazing person, we must also remember to celebrate his life, and the myriads of ways in which he touched the lives of so many.

We are raising funds to support Lauren, Anaïs and Aubrey as they navigate this difficult time. The funds will be used to cover related expenses including an event to celebrate Joel’s life which is being planned for the coming weeks. Any remaining funds will be used to support Anaïs’ and Aubrey’s education.

Joel’s family is incredibly grateful for the support so many have already shown them and want to extend a heartfelt thank you all of you. While they will need some time and space to navigate these difficult times, they also feel and appreciate the love and care many have provided.
